You will be amazed at the restaurants in the area. Everything from a Wendys burger bar, thro’ chain restaurants to some very good dining experiences. All offer good food and remarkably good value.
Here are some:
On S McCall Road (776)
La Stanza. Good American/Italian.
Mamma Mias. Italian, always winning awards.
Farlows. American with fish specialities, on the water. Excellent.
Dennys. Open all night, excellent for breakfast.
On Placida Road
Prime Time. Lovely Margaritas, food with a Mexican theme.
Blue Lagoon.Italian/American. On the water. Pasta & seafood specialities
Angelos. Small friendly Italian. Excellent pizzas.
Along the 776 eastwards towards Port Charlotte you will find a range of chain restaurants like; Chilis, Red Lobster, Olive Grove, Outback Steak House, Hooters and Carrabbas to name a few.
Further afield; well why not explore the possibilities yourself. Loads to choose from.
Remember, Americans like to eat much earlier than us Brits. Restaurants will therefore close that much sooner. If in doubt book.
For late eaters, One all-nighter is Dennys on the 776. Although famous for its’ breakfasts, it does offer cooked meals all night. No alcohol is sold though.
Local shops to cater for every need. Supermarkets, Publix (Selling American Printed English Newspapers) and Winn Dixie on the 776. A Wall Mart Superstore (24hr) is also on this road. A ten minute drive along the 776 east will bring you to Murdoch Crossing which boasts the largest shopping mall in SW Florida. Sears, Maceys, and a host of other good stores will keep you busy.
Not just a pleasure here, but a passion. There are too many courses to name but all offer pay and play with equipment and buggy hire at reasonable rates. See the phone book for details and booking procedure. Needless to say all will be in superb condition.
Possibly the best coastal fishing in the world.
Tarpon, snook, mullet and grouper to name a few can all be caught.
Buy a little rod in Wall Marts for a few bucks and try the creeks or arrange for a sea fishing trip with one of the many charter boats listed in the phone book.
As Florida is flat probably the best scenic areas are along the coast. Visit some of the many islands some accessible by bridge or a toll.
There is an abundance of wildlife; bald eagles, pelicans, cranes and herons.
Alligators, raccoons, foxes, armadillos and bob cats. All are shy and should not be approached but there is always something worth seeing.
Take a boat trip from Boca Grande, or one of many advertised, and see dolphins or manatees in the wild.
Englewood beach just a ten minute drive. Manasota Key, Stump Pass Park, Blind Passage a short distance away. All offer long stretches of golden sandy beaches and safe water. Most have changing and BBQ facilities and most are uncrowded.
While staying in Englewood it is likely you will need a car to get around in, we recommend Yes Car Hire.
